FATTORIA DEL COLLE

We are in the center of Medieval Tuscany, on a high hill (404 - m above sea level) in the midst of uncontaminated countryside. This is where the woods finish and an immense panorama opens out on the Val D’Orcia and the Crete Senesi. The estate seems like a little hamlet, with a large Sixteen Century villa, and its houses where the farmer once lived which have now become apartments for our guests. There is a chapel, a well, a tavern where one can parteke of the local traditional cuisine, and the historic cellar where one can taste and buy wine and oil. One can visit the historic part or the farm, which tells a story that goes back in time until the XIIth century. It starts with St. Egidio’s hermitage and continues with the chapel rebuilt in 1592; it includes sections of the villa from the XVIIIth and XIXth centuries with the hunter’s fireplace, its hall with coats of arm and the bird bedroom where the Grand Duke of Tuscany Leopold of Hapsburg used to sleep. From more recent centuries there are other objects reminding one of the past: a sieve for sifting flour which our guests can try out, the brigand’s bell, the old Count’s bathroom. The fattoria del Colle covers 336 ha. Here we do not use chemical toxic products, and the cereals, the farm’s major product, are made into baby food because they are clean. There are 19 ha of vineyards which the grapes for Chianti DOCG and Chianti Superiore, the rosé “Rosa di Tetto”, the Sanchimento, “leone Rosso”, Vin Santo and grappa; extra virgin olive oil, truffles and cereals.

HOSPITALITY:

The estate has 19 farm holiday apartments. The smallest sleeps 2 people and the largest 14. It is possible to rent rooms in the low season. The apartments have been created in the main villa and in the old farmhouses, their decoration reflects the simplicity and culture of the area, with its antique furniture, confortable rather than luxurious.

Each apartment is made up of one or more bedrooms, a sitting room with cooking area and at least one bathroom with shower. There are kitchen utensils and linen for the bathroom, bedroom and kitchen. Nearly all the houses have tables outside for eating in the open air. Independent central heating.

SERVICES, ENTERTAINMENT AND SPORT:

Guests have the use of three swimming pools, a tennis court, a table tennis, a 6 mountain bikes, two well equipped gardens one of which with games for children.

3 trekking routes start off from the farm towards the village of Trequanda, to the very large birdcages which house a thousand pheasants and lead towards the vista of Crete senesi. During the summer there is an entertainment programme for the whole week, which is shortened in the winter and takes place during the weekend.

It includes a visit to a Brunello winery in Montalcino, where the famous wine is offered, a visit to a ceramic factory and to the Abbey of Monte Oliveto, a lesson on extra virgin olive oil including a tasting, a visit to the historic parts of the Fattoria del Colle, the archers route during which guests learn how to use bows and arrows on 5 targets set up in the woods and in the vineyards... Television and telephone are available next to the reception.
Osteria di Donatella: The typical cuisine from the area is made up of about forty recipes as well as those present in the rest of Sienese territory such as “crostini neri” and “panforte”.

25 km from Pienza; 35 km from Montepulciano and from Bagno Vignoni (where it is possible to swim in the open air all year round).
