Hospitality
The estate of the Borro,20km from Arezzo and 50km from Florence, has an old roman road, the Clodia and later called Cassia, that runs through it. The Borro takes it's name from a castle that was situated 275m above sea level at the summit on a picturesque and isolated plateau, and surronded by a moat. It sat at the feet of the Pratomagno mountains that highlight it's charcter. The whimsical actions of the great lakes, and the later formation of the river Arno, are what created the Borro estate, and like Ganghereto and other places of this nature, they now provide a somewhat fearful alternative to flatness and monotony. The vast and beautiful estate occupies a sort of small table at the feet of the enormity of Pratomagno. The weather is governed by the proximity of the mountains, and in winter it is not unusual for there to be sudden changes in temperature, and spring frosts come without warning. The area covers about 500 hectares with harmonious charcteristics and boundaries that have remained unchanged over the years. The torrent Agna, with it's limped waters that trickle and babble stone over stone, runs through the estate along with other smaller streams; Lorenaccio,Loreno and GiambonePart of the estate lies to the north of the road the "Sette Ponte" and is accesibile by a comunal road that climbs steeply to a height of 320m.At 400m you cross over the boundaries of the estate and continuing on you find yourself at the summit of Pratomagno at 1000m. Of special interest with regards to the landscape,is the central zone with the Borro in the background and where the stream Rimocchi runs and meets the locality called Valle.
Leaving the Borro in a southernly direction, the road leads on and becomes only passable with the help of a four wheel drive vehicle, climbing alongside a stream with various fords. On foot you can find a spur that divides the entrance of the two borri,or gorges. This area is noted for it's gorges which can be translated into the word borro or borri, plural. The sides of which are normally made of a yellowish clay. Evidence of this can be found in the painting by Leonardo Da Vinci called the Mona Lisa, supposedly painted at Ponte Buriano on the road the "Sette Ponte" a few kilometres from the Borro. The village itself is isolated on a spur and surrounded by these gorges. In medieaval times, taking advantage of this, the houses were surrounded by high walls and a drawbridge was the only point of entrance.
Upon arrival all guests are greeted in the Ferragamo family Villa where they are issued with portable telephones for their convenience. Whilst on the estate a wide range of activities are available such as; mountain biking, sportive fishing, cooking or painting courses, horse riding or trips up to Pratomagno in the mountains either on foot or horseback. For the guests convenience we also provide a twice weekly maid service and additionally offer cooking, grocery shopping, babysitting, driving, manicure and pedicure services. The Borro enjoys easy access to the four airports of; Florence 55 Km, Pisa 120 Km, Bologna 150 Km and Rome 190 Km.
