It is more than 20 years that “ Il Roveto “ offers hospitality to agritourist. The farm house was built in 1762 in a magnificent late-baroc style. It was the center of the estate of Canicarao Marquis. Today, the house is still the core of a dynamic 50-ha. farm. Almonds, olive oil, lemons, honey and wine are produced as well as carobs and prickly pears, very typical crops of Sicily. “

Lodging at “ Il Roveto “ means to stay in the old houses where the workers used to live. Il Roveto “ is easy to reach. The farm-house is exactly half-way between the two towns of Noto and Pachino. Buses run all day round between the two towns and the bus-stop is just 400 meter away from the farm-house.

WHAT YOU CAN DO HERE

Birdwatching is very popular ( guided tours are available ) particularly during the nesting period. Two shelters house are placed at the border of the pounds of the Preserved Area, one of the most important and well-preserved wet areas in Europe. The farm-house hosts a small country museum where many gears, paraphernalia and old instruments once used to cultivate the fields and harvest the crops are collected. For the art lovers the towns of Noto, Palazzolo, Siracusa, Caltagirone, Modica and Ragusa are a real paradise and deserve a visit. Very close to the farm are the pictoresque fisherman villages of Portopalo and Marzamemi. For a taste of Sicily, guests at “ Il Roveto “ may eat the typical dishes of Sicilian cuisine in many “ trattorie “ and small restaurants both in the country side and in the towns.
