LA TENUTA SAN ROCCO

Tenuta San Rocco estate, standing in the Comune of Conzano Monferrato, took roots in the past centuries perhaps since the Medioeval. The name of the country derives from the little family chapel voted to Saint Rocco and edificated in the '700 by a thriving Arciconfraternity. In 1847, when the country house was built, vineyard was already coltivated as testifies the Napoleonic cadastre of 1812, an authentic copy of which is conserved in the family museum, where can be seen ancient farming tools and several attestations of prizes for produced wines.

Agriturism:
A wing of the house has been arranged to receive the hosts (bed & breakfast). Equipped of three bedrooms on the upper floor and of a wide hall with kitchen on the groud floor it overlooks a large square facing the west.
The park:
The house is encircled from a park dominated by a 300 years old Platano; Cedars, Pines, Oaks, Horse-chestnut, Magnolias, Hazel, Almond, Cherry and Medlar (Japanese) trees can be admired. Some Palms too give evidence of the mildness of the climate that is, also in the colder months, 8-10 degrees over the temperature of downhill.

Planty of amusement for turists:
The knowledge of biological manuring and growing of vineyards and techniques of vinification. The discovery of ancient castles and medieval villages. The visit to Casale Monferrato (so called Siena of Piedmont):Churches, Palaces and the famous Synagogue. To walk in the country, to ride a byke or a horse To go fishing for trouts and carps to property lake. Doing nothing immersed in the green of the park

The Cellar:
The wine cellar built under the country house (1847) has vaulted brick roof and , originally, pavement in soil. The temperature and the humidity are maintained stable all the year long. The must of grape produced exclusively from the vines of the Estate is vinificated in thermocontrolled steel containers and the wine is refined in Slavonia oak wooden barrels and in French barriques (Allier).

Wines:
Barbera is a dry, non petillant, dark-red wine, with a ripe (blackberry) fruit bouquet and a intense full-bodied taste. Freisa is the speciality of Tenuta San Rocco winery. The wine, obtained by vinification of Freisa grapes, has an intense fragrance of cherry and raspberry. Grignolino comes from an autochtonal vine growing only in the territory of Monferrato. It is a delicated rosè wine with a typical bitter almond taste. Vines are coltivated on calcareous ground, southerly exposed, 250 meters above sea level with biological manuring respectfull for environment. Grape production of only 2-ton-per-acre helps bunches maturation; vinification is performed exclusively in the best years.
