TENUTA DUCALE LA PESCA

The wildlife reserve of the lake of Posta Fibreno created in 1983 is at 7 km from Sora and covers a total surface of 400 hectares. The Farm Holiday Center "Tenuta Ducale La Pesca" is located inside this area. The Posta lake collects all the waters coming from the snow thawing of the nearby National Park of Abruzzo. The effluent of the lake is the river Fibreno, that flows green and silent for about 10 kilometers until it gets into the river Liri with a rate of 10 cubic meters per second. The lake of Posta Fibreno and the river Fibreno are a rare model of uncontaminated internal waters.

As in the past centuries, these waters still preserve their crystal-clear transparency today, thus allowing for the growth of a veritable forest of algae with splendid colour reflexes. A great number of fish species live protected by this underwater vegetation, among which we may mention trouts and the large carp. The abundance of algae also originates an extraordinary effect: the floating island, a block of interweaved turfed vegetation that constantly moves and floats pushed by the wind. The tress and bushes of the riverbanks house the nests of an extremely varied bird fauna, with specimens of moorhen, grebe, bald-coot, kingfisher, grey heron. The low temperature of the water (about 10°C) has never favoured swimming in these waters, but never stopped, however, the boldness of divers who frequently explore its floor, where they have even planted a cross at a 16 meter depth.

The Tenuta Ducale La Pesca was opened at the beginning of the seventies and consists in two ancient country-estate buildings that have been today restored according to modern standards. Among the activities you can practice at the farm are canoeing, fly-fishing, archery and water-gym.

 But many other activities and courses are organized at the farm: natural beauty treatments and cookery, the so-called "bread weekends", olystic massaging, plantar reflexology and Bach flower therapy. And more: you can follow trekking, horse-riding or mountain-bike trails in the National Park of Abruzzo, as well as guided excursions and culture tours. In the evenings there are many folklore and music events. And finally, you can buy the local products at the farm: honey, truffles, jams, sauces and cakes .

WHAT YOU CAN DO HERE

The farm organizes a series of one-day workshops on natural food products and habits, with a vegetarian menu. These days are organized based on the request. The most interesting excursions in the National Park of Abruzzo are the paths conducting to the Vallone Lacerno, Forca d'Acero, Rocca Settefrati, Valle di Canneto, Prato di Mezzo and the Meta mountains. The villages of the Valley of Comino are also worthwhile visiting. Every second Sunday of the month, a picturesque antique street market is held in the village of Sora, in whose vicinity you may also seize the opportunity to visit Arpino and the renowned Abbey of Montecassino.
